There is something magical about watching the sunset. How it teases its viewers, slowly moving and changing within seconds. How it moves from one place to another throughout the year. How it works with the particles in the air to create a paint brushed canvas sky. How the last sight of the sun takes its bow and disappears behind its curtain promising to reappear tomorrow for an encore. It will do this performance 365 times in a year and 365 times we’ll capture it.
When Greg shared that he would capture the sunset each night in 2015, I thought it was a neat idea, but didn’t know if he was really serious. But each evening, he grabbed his camera and took several shots, sometimes running back out seconds later because the sunset was better, brighter and bolder. Many evenings we watched in silence. With only the click of the camera and the air between us. It became a ritual and we found joy in just sitting and enjoying the sun. We even loved moving our chairs throughout the year to perfectly face the show. 365 sunsets, each with an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of mother nature. Each with an opportunity to reflect on the day, to leave whatever needed to be left behind and to exhale with the sun’s departure and look forward to welcoming it back tomorrow.
Tonight, we get to take the final sunset of 2015 as a completion to this project. As the sun takes its final bow for the year, I can’t help but click through all of the evenings we’ve enjoyed saying goodbye to the day.
